Focus or Lack Thereof

Promoting or creating, that is the question. It’s the end of the month and I feel compelled to try to boost lensrank but I’m not sure I can do much this late in the game. I’ve decided my time in the next couple of days will be dedicated to doing some tweaking with tags, updating, and submitting some things to Mixx which is new to me in addition to my regular blogging. New lenses will have to wait until the end of the week.

I’m never sure which lenses to target in my efforts.  Do I focus at the top where there seems to be hope, at the bottom where almost anything could be an improvement, or on topics that are personal favorites?  Right now I’m leaning toward ones that seem to be popular topics in the forums I frequent and thus I believe should be performing better; bringing in affiliate sales.  My International Cell Phones lens is an example.  I can’t count how many questions I get about this stuff but it only has 3 clickouts and a  couple of visits a week.  Can we say invisible?

Another target is my International Text Messaging lens. It gets a reasonable 250 or so visitors per week but I have a whopping 3 cents worth of sales.  Maybe I need to look into seeing if some of the online services I link to have affiliate programs and other ways to monetize. I don’t give up on a lens easily, they require a lot of time to create and my reasoning for doing them still seems solid.

I’ve been a little distracted by the idea of doing some Knols on Google but right now I struggle enough with focus I guess it will have to wait a few weeks at least.

My International Calling Cards lens (http://www.squidoo.com/international-calling-cards-usa-to-uk) does diddly-squat too. I think there is a lot of competition, but despite my having what I think is a lot of good advice and good keywords and tags, it flounders.

Did I ever lensroll to yours? I think I meant to, but don’t remember and can’t check until tonight, but I would be pleased to add links to yours in my Plexo list - think I have one at the bottom of the lens, and also to lensroll these.

Mine covers calling cards for calling overseas, so together we might be able to boost traffic and sales with luck.

I would also be happy to try using a Featured Lens module instead for the links if you wanted, as that makes the links stand out a bit better.

Just let me know. I will try and get the links sorted out tonight. Too late for monthend, and I also have to go out tonight, so I probably won’t be able to start work on anything until 9pm, but anything is worth a try I think.

As far as promoting, tweaking or creating new lenses goes, I think at the end of the month it’s best to try and boost existing lenses - well the ones that are boostable at least. A tweak or enhancement here and there if you can think of anything (that’s the hard part), and alsso some promotion to try and get more traffic (even harder as time goes by).

    Well good luck…
I think we all need it this month…

I think the best way to make money on squidoo is to have a mix of money making lenses (devoted to some product) and informational lenses where you just get the squidoo cache. The informational lenses are more likely to get links (from within and outside squidoo) and the sales lenses well - are likely to get more sales… (not that mine do, I obviously have a lot to learn in that department).

anyhow, on a lens that is getting consistent traffic, I’d personally link out to more specific and related lenses with products on them - instead of adding extra adds that might distract from your message.
